Why should I refinish my pool coating?

There are many reasons why you should refinish your pool coating and maintain its condition. Just like a house, your swimming pool is a construction, thus a financial and time investment. Once you start neglecting it, the pool coating will begin to wear out, to a point where not only your pool will look bad, but it will also feel uncomfortable at touch. Unless you like to buy a lot of swimwear or contract an expert to re-plaster your pool coating, you should probably get ready for spring by refinishing your pool coating!

How do I do it?

First, you will need to drain the pool. Use one or two sump pumps to get all the water drained from the pool. If there’s still some left to the crud at the bottom or if there’s a lot of debris accumulated, make sure you clean it all off. Wash the pool bottom once more and drain that water, as well.

Depending on the weather, you might want to wait a couple of hours or even days before you proceed to the next step. Use this waiting time to shop around for the paint that suits best your pool’s needs and aesthetics. Gather as much information as you can, from neighbors, friends or even the retailer.

If you plan on doing all the work on your own, then make sure you have all the supplies you need around you. The last thing you need is stop the painting process to go shop for new rollers.

Go around the pool wall with your hand and inspect if it’s completely dry. If you paint over wet areas, the paint will chip away in time.

Most retailers say that one layer of paint coating is enough, but even if you use epoxy paint, it’s better to apply a second layer, for prolonged service.
